Antonio C. Atalig Memorial Library

Officially inaugurated on June 29, 2012, the Antonio C. Atalig Memorial Library, also known as the Rota Public Library, stands as a vital institution serving the residents of the island of Rota. The library’s opening marked a significant milestone in providing access to information, resources, and community engagement opportunities for the local populace.

The naming of the Rota Public Library as the Antonio C. Atalig Memorial Library is rooted in Public Law 2-50 (House Bill 233), which designated the facility to honor the memory of Rota’s Mayor, Antonio C. Atalig. This tribute underscores the significance of Mayor Atalig’s contributions to the community and ensures his legacy is remembered through this important public service.

Nestled in the scenic village of Songsong, within the 1st Senatorial district of Rota, the Antonio C. Atalig Memorial Library plays a crucial role in the lives of the island’s inhabitants. According to the 2010 Census, the library caters to a population of 2,527 individuals residing on Rota. As a central hub for learning and community interaction, it serves as a valuable resource for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Classified as a rural and small-sized public library, the Antonio C. Atalig Memorial Library offers a range of essential services designed to meet the diverse needs of its patrons. Recognizing the importance of digital literacy in today’s world, the library provides computer workstations with internet connectivity, enabling access to a vast array of online resources and opportunities. Furthermore, the library offers crucial support for students through its homework help services, fostering academic success within the community. Residents can also benefit from personalized reference assistance, guiding them in their research and information-seeking endeavors.

Beyond traditional library services, the Antonio C. Atalig Memorial Library actively participates in community enrichment programs. It proudly hosts the Northern Marianas Humanities Council’s Motheread/Fatheread Family Literacy Program, which promotes early literacy skills and strengthens family engagement in reading. This initiative highlights the library’s commitment to fostering a culture of reading and lifelong learning within the Rota community. The Antonio C. Atalig Memorial Library stands not just as a repository of books, but as a dynamic center for education, community engagement, and the preservation of local heritage.
