Tinian Public Library

Nestled in the heart of San Jose village on the island of Tinian, the Tinian Public Library stands as a cornerstone of the community, providing essential resources and services to its residents. According to the 2010 Census, the library proudly serves a population of 3,136 individuals who call Tinian home. Despite its classification as a rural and small-sized public library, it plays an outsized role in fostering literacy, providing access to information, and enriching the lives of the island’s inhabitants.
The Tinian Public Library offers a diverse range of resources and programs designed to meet the varied needs of its patrons. Recognizing the importance of digital literacy in today’s world, the library provides access to computer workstations equipped with internet connectivity, bridging the digital divide and enabling residents to connect, learn, and access online resources. For students, the library serves as a crucial support system through its homework help centers, offering a conducive environment for study and assistance with academic endeavors.
Beyond its core offerings, the Tinian Public Library actively engages the community through a variety of enriching programs. The popular Saturday Read Alouds & Arts and Crafts sessions provide young learners with opportunities to develop a love for reading and express their creativity in a fun and interactive setting. The library’s commitment to lifelong learning is further demonstrated through its provision of reference assistance, guiding individuals in their pursuit of knowledge and information.
Furthermore, the Tinian Public Library proudly partners with the Northern Marianas Humanities Council to host the Motheread/Fatheread Family Literacy Program. This nationally recognized initiative promotes family engagement in literacy activities, strengthening bonds between parents and children while fostering a culture of reading within the home. Through this program, the library actively contributes to the development of strong literacy skills from an early age, laying the foundation for future academic and personal success within the Tinian community. In essence, the Tinian Public Library serves as more than just a repository of books; it functions as a dynamic hub for learning, community engagement, and cultural enrichment on the island of Tinian.
